Of all the things I did on my trip to the Dells, this was my favorite. The only way it could have been better is if I could have hiked it myself instead of being lead by a team of horses. I love the horses and being able to sit for a while - don't get me wrong. I just loved it so much, I would have loved to hike it at my own pace and spend a half a day there.
Such a perfect thing to do when up at the Dells. Unique, fun, beautiful, and not expensive. Lots of cheesy stuff at Wis Dells, but this is something genuine, with history, and a very cool ride.
Our tour guide was Chris and his horses were Jack and Joe. Great guide, wonderful horses. Like most of the tours I had in the Dells, there were plenty of corny, family-friendly jokes.
Family owned and well worth the price of admission! The guy working the ticket booth wasn't exactly Mr. Personality but the tour guide was great! We enjoyed the history of the cannon and the peaceful journey thru it. It was all pretty spectacular. Seen many deer and other wildlife. The draft horses were super friendly as my 7 year animal lover child hugged and petted them non stop.
It's much cooler and damp in the canyon, so you might want to dress more warmly. If you're staying at the Wilderness Hotel, one of the tunnels to the other buildings overlooks the canyon and one of the turn-around spots for the horse & buggy teams. My only disappointment was how the canyon was quiet and peaceful until we got near the Wilderness resort. The music and screaming kids put a damper on my enjoyment. Luckily, it was only for a little while and only in the one spot.
Very cool tours of the canyons. Our guide was funny and told some good stories about the olden days and how the canyons and tours came to be. It's good to get there early and possibly get an empty carriage and get a tour all by yourself.
One of the most fun times we had on our little vacation. Josh, our guide, was such a fun guide and so informative with stories, history, and information about the area. We had a small group (off season perks) and I felt we really had the full benefit of a leisurely tour. The scenery was absolutely magical, and the price can't be beat. Be sure to tip your guide well, especially if it's Josh....
